Delivering Smarter, Faster, and More Equitable Care
From postpartum care to crisis response, DMAS has strengthened services for over two million Virginians. These highlights reflect just a portion of the work we’ve done to improve access, efficiency, and outcomes.
- Increased Postpartum Visits: Medicaid postpartum visit rates rose from 46% in 2021 to 55% statewide --- and in Petersburg from 42% to 64%—with coverage now extended to 12 months.
- Mobile Crisis Services: In 2024, 64% of adult behavioral health crises were addressed through mobile crisis services—well above national benchmarks—helping reduce ED visits and hospitalizations.
- Automatic Newborn Enrollment: Over 1,000 newborns are now automatically enrolled in Medicaid monthly through the Baby Bot system, cutting manual processing time nearly in half.
- Redesigned Member Website: A redesigned DMAS website now serves 120,000+ members with accessible tools and dashboards, down from an overly complex 245-item menu.
- Innovative Managed Care Contracts: A new procurement for managed care contracts focuses on innovation, accountability, and better outcomes for more than 2 million Virginians.
