Foster Care

Foster Care

Medicaid coverage is available to eligible former foster care youth who were receiving Medicaid and foster care services in any state at the time of their 18th birthday and are currently under age 26

Overview

Children who are eligible for Medicaid and placed in foster care will be enrolled into Medicaid managed care. This will enhance the coordination of health care services for children. The Department of Medical Assistance Services’ (DMAS) contracted Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) provide additional services such as a 24-hour nurse advice line, case management/care coordination, toll free member helplines, and disease management programs focusing on various chronic conditions such as pediatric asthma, diabetes, and obesity.
